We found our silver lining when the nurses brought us all his meds, already in the syringes, ready to go! We were like, woo-hoo! We don't even need to keep track of them anymore! YES! :)
Gavin's doing really good, fever is only low grade and isn't going up even w/o meds. He's been playing and flirting and STANDING UP by holding onto the crib railing!!!! He got to go play in the playroom today...it was so much fun for him! He hasn't been able to get down on the ground and crawl for the last few days (I dont know why they didnt tell us about it before?! They probably thought he was too small.) But he was zip-zooming all over all over the place and had a blast! I'm going to try and get a wagon later today, too, and take him on a ride around the floor.
I stayed up with Gavin the night before last and Andre went back to the hotel to sleep. He finished up all his tests and appointments yesterday. Last night we switched and I went back to the hotel to sleep and shower. It was SO nice!!! These recliner chairs in the hospital are ridiculously uncomfortable.
I didn't get to sleep until just after midnight though because the hotel walls are SUPER thin and the family next to us was up talking. But I couldn't really be annoyed because the lady's husband is in the hospital with cancer, and she is 5 months pregnant. I heard her crying this morning while I was getting ready...it was really sad. I don't think his prognosis is very good. :(
We got moved to the infant's ward yesterday, too. So now we're sharing a room with a 2 year old little girl who just had brain surgery, so she is still totally out of it on morphine. So its pretty quiet in here unless Gavin is awake.
We're also right next door to the other mom from the message board. So I got to go in and chat with her last night some more. She said they got called 5 times before her daughter got transplanted, and every single call was on a holiday, and their first one was on Memorial Day. (The sad, but scary truth is that a lot of organs are procured then...because of all the people out and about and there are more accidents! So be careful, people!!!) It made me think...uh oh, Memorial Day is next week!!! :X
None of his cultures have come back positive yet, but some take 48-72 hours to see results. So we're still waiting. The doctor said to plan on being here another 4-5 days, so hopefully we'll be back by Sunday! I also found out that they didn't change his PELD score, so it is still at a 30. They are only required to change it every 3-4 months, but they restest every couple of weeks so if its worse they send in the new numbers. If its not, then they keep it at the previous score so he will stay higher up on the list for longer. (make sense?) I'm glad we brought our duffel bags with us "just in case" though!
{ Hello! }
My name is Gavin. I am 11 months old. I was born with a genetic disorder called Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency that caused my liver to go into failure. I was misdiagnosed for 3 months and underwent emergency surgery before they found out what was wrong. I am on the Organ Donation List and am waiting for my "gift of life" so I can have a liver transplant. You can read about my story by clicking {here}. Thank you for visiting my online journal!
*It is our deepest sorrow to inform you that Gavin passed away while waiting to receive a liver transplant. He was only 14 days away from his 1st birthday. Please, if you haven't already, sign up to be a registered organ donor today and talk to your loved ones about your wishes: http://www.donatelife.net/. Thank you all so much for your love and support during this last year.
