My cousin Marie and her family held a garage sale in Gavin's honor over the weekend, and she called me today to tell me all about it. They had so much fun, and she had a lot of great stories to tell me. They had been having rain all day & night the week leading up to the sale, and it was just cold and miserable. They prayed that it would be nice and sunny Saturday morning, and when they woke up it had stopped raining and it was sunny out all day for the sale! The next morning it started raining again and hasn't stopped yet!
She met a lot of people who had either been a donor receiver or had had a loved one pass away and they donated the organs. She also had people mention that they didn't get to do service for others very often, and that it was such a great day for them to be able to participate! I'm so glad their family got to experience that, and I know they will receive so many blessings for it, too!
Her kids were also very involved, they had a bake sale table set up with rice crispie treats, brownies, and lifesavers. They even had people give them money or buy goodies when they couldn't even eat sugar! (The kids thought that was pretty cool!) Her oldest daughter had told her classroom and passed out flyers, and a bunch of the kids brought in items to donate. One girl donated her favorite Barbie doll, another child donated his allowance money and an army guy. Kids are so sweet!
Thank you so much "M&Ms"!!! ;) We are so appreciative for all the hard work and time you put into this sale. That was awesome!!! We love you (and miss you)!
{ Hello! }
My name is Gavin. I am 11 months old. I was born with a genetic disorder called Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency that caused my liver to go into failure. I was misdiagnosed for 3 months and underwent emergency surgery before they found out what was wrong. I am on the Organ Donation List and am waiting for my "gift of life" so I can have a liver transplant. You can read about my story by clicking {here}. Thank you for visiting my online journal!
*It is our deepest sorrow to inform you that Gavin passed away while waiting to receive a liver transplant. He was only 14 days away from his 1st birthday. Please, if you haven't already, sign up to be a registered organ donor today and talk to your loved ones about your wishes: http://www.donatelife.net/. Thank you all so much for your love and support during this last year.
