{ Hello! }

My name is Gavin. I am 11 months old. I was born with a genetic disorder called Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency that caused my liver to go into failure. I was misdiagnosed for 3 months and underwent emergency surgery before they found out what was wrong. I am on the Organ Donation List and am waiting for my "gift of life" so I can have a liver transplant. You can read about my story by clicking {here}. Thank you for visiting my online journal!

*It is our deepest sorrow to inform you that Gavin passed away while waiting to receive a liver transplant. He was only 14 days away from his 1st birthday. Please, if you haven't already, sign up to be a registered organ donor today and talk to your loved ones about your wishes: http://www.donatelife.net/. Thank you all so much for your love and support during this last year.

7 & 8 months old!

Gavin is now 8 months old!
(We were so busy the last two months being in the hospital and then recovering at home, that I couldn't find the time to update his monthly milestones. So, after some hemming and hawing, I decided to just combine these two months and call it good! Do you think Gavin will ever forgive me?!)

Stats:
Weight: just over 14 lbs! (Yay!)
Height: 24.5"
Head: 44cm

Eating Habits:

We've introduced Gavin to baby food the last two months! At first he didn't quite know what to do with it, just kind if mooshed it around with his tongue then spit it out. But now he's got the hang of it and can eat up to half a jar in one sitting (sometimes!). He has had bananas, sweet potatoes, squash, applesauce, and green beans. He seems to like the sweet potatoes and the bananas the best so far! He is also getting the hang of picking up bits of cut up banana or little crackers with his fingers, and *almost* gets them in his mouth (we're working on the hand/eye cooridination!) He is VERY good at picking them up and throwing them on the floor however! We got his highchair this month and he isn't quite sure whether he likes to sit in it yet. It helps if everyone else it sitting at the table though! He STILL doesn't have any teeth yet, but is always chewing on everything as usual. He's happily chewed on a sweet pickel, a dill pickle, slices of bell peppers, lemon wedges, watermelon, apple slices...if its cold, he'll chew on it! I'll be very happy when those teeth finally come in!

Sleep Habits:

Gavin is still hit or miss on the sleep schedule. He will still fall asleep around 8-9pm, but sometimes wakes up at midnight, or 3-4am, or sleep through the night until 7-8am. (or on his worst nights, he wakes up all three times in one night!) He is getting really good at taking naps though, and his day schedule is getting pretty consistent. He'll go back down for a short nap around 9-10am, then a long nap around noon. I can just lay him down with his bottle and he'll zonk right out! His favorite naps are with Mommy though (and mine, too!) :)

Play Habits:

Gavin is a crawling machine these days! He zip zooms all over the house now, exploring every nook and cranny! He prefers the "stink bug" crawl up on all fours, especially when on the hard wood floor. He got his playpen this month, but he's not so sure he likes that either. He wants to be held by Mommy every second of the day (at least until Daddy walks in the door!). Gavin thinks his big brother and sister are really funny, too, and laughs at their silly performances that they make up just for him. His favorite game is still "1...2...3...WHEEE!" where we lay him in the middle of our Cali King bed and then *jump* on the mattress next to him so he bounces up and down! As soon as we start counting he gets a big grin on his face and starts laughing!

Any 1sts this month?

First night in his crib!

First playtime in the playpen!

and best of all...first time crawling!

And just because it makes me laugh:
