We had to take Gavin to the ER Saturday night (well, technically morning I guess...it was 4am) because he had a fever over 102. (We are supposed to take him if it even goes above 100.5!) They did blood cultures, urine sample, and chest x-rays and found he has another line infection so they admitted him. Today after talking to the doctors it looks like he may have the same infection as last time. We'll be doing the same routine...blood draws everyday, waiting to see exactly what strain it is, waiting for them to find the right antibiotic to treat it. We don't know yet if this means they will have to take his line out and redo it in another spot. I am HOPING they will keep it in. He'll be here the rest of the week. Not fun. But THANKFULLY this hospital is only 15 minutes away from home instead of 8 hours! :)
He has gained another pound this week, just from the fluid build-up in his tummy. Hes up to 15 lbs 15 oz, last week he was 14lbs 12oz. (and the week before that he was only 13lbs!!!) He has grown more than 10cm around his stomach. His tummy is SO much more swollen now than the pictures I posted below. Its so sad...I didnt even want to pick him up last night because it is just rock hard and I'm afraid it will hurt him to have pressure on it. He started the diruetics last night, so hopefully within the next day it will go down and he'll be more comfortable.
He had a rough night...between teething (he got his first tooth last week!!!) :D and battling this cold, the infection & fever, throwing up his bottle 3 times, the diaper rash, and the big uncomfy tummy...he was pretty miserable. He just layed in his crib propped up with all the pillows and watched Mary Poppins. He looked so pitiful...his chest swollen up into his chin and just no energy, he looked like a sack of potatoes! (it would've been funny, except that it was also sad) :P But the fever has gone down since starting the antibiotics, this morning it was only 98! So hopefully he'll have a better night tonight.
{ Hello! }
My name is Gavin. I am 11 months old. I was born with a genetic disorder called Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency that caused my liver to go into failure. I was misdiagnosed for 3 months and underwent emergency surgery before they found out what was wrong. I am on the Organ Donation List and am waiting for my "gift of life" so I can have a liver transplant. You can read about my story by clicking {here}. Thank you for visiting my online journal!
*It is our deepest sorrow to inform you that Gavin passed away while waiting to receive a liver transplant. He was only 14 days away from his 1st birthday. Please, if you haven't already, sign up to be a registered organ donor today and talk to your loved ones about your wishes: http://www.donatelife.net/. Thank you all so much for your love and support during this last year.

oh, I'm SO sorry Bethany. I hate that you have to watch your son go through this. I know it is so hard. I will be praying for little Gavin. I hope he feels better REALLY soon!
Hope you get some sleep tonight...we're parying for Gav...and you guys!:)
Hi there. I was just wondering if you have "THE BONE" for Gavin? It's a catheter securement device we use to hold Zackery's centriline away from him.
Can't believe how strong and attentive you guys are. Let me know if I can help, like if you need a nap or something.
