{ Hello! }

My name is Gavin. I am 11 months old. I was born with a genetic disorder called Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency that caused my liver to go into failure. I was misdiagnosed for 3 months and underwent emergency surgery before they found out what was wrong. I am on the Organ Donation List and am waiting for my "gift of life" so I can have a liver transplant. You can read about my story by clicking {here}. Thank you for visiting my online journal!

*It is our deepest sorrow to inform you that Gavin passed away while waiting to receive a liver transplant. He was only 14 days away from his 1st birthday. Please, if you haven't already, sign up to be a registered organ donor today and talk to your loved ones about your wishes: http://www.donatelife.net/. Thank you all so much for your love and support during this last year.

Ok, seriously now...

Well, Gavin was going to go home today, then the doc came in around noon and said Gavin's hemoglobin was low and needed to stay an extra night to get blood. Hes normally 8.5 (which is already low) and the lowest its ever been previously is 7, and today it was 6.5. I am thinking of just letting him stay a couple more days though. Then I wont need to worry about doing his antibiotics at home for as long...there are 6 doses a day, plus his TPN and Lipids, and none of them can be run together. I'll just try to have him out here by Saturday evening before the kids come home!

Other than that there's not a whole lot of new stuff to report. His diaper rash is not getting worse, but hasn't gotten dramatically better either. But the wound care nurses have been coming to check on it the last couple of days and are giving us different things to try. So hopefully we'll find something that works!

Today we watched Pocohantas together. I think he liked it. :P We also took a nice long nap snuggled up together, took a few walks around the pod, and played in the playroom for awhile (he really liked that!). :) If anything I am getting a lot of good reading done. I think they are going to know my name at the Borders bookstore over here!!!
